Steel and titanium need very little. Most of what shortens a bottle’s life is heat on the cap, abrasive cleaners on the finish, or a gasket left compressed and wet.
Every day
Rinse warm, dry open
A warm rinse and an open cap overnight prevents almost every smell people write to us about.
Body on the top rack
Dishwasher safe on the top rack. The bottom rack runs hotter and will dull a powder coat over time.
Cap by hand
Hand wash the cap. Dishwasher heat compresses the gasket and it stops sealing months early.
Once a month, or after coffee
Bicarbonate soak
A teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in warm water, left an hour, lifts coffee and tea staining without scouring.
Brush the thread
The screw thread holds more than the body does. A small brush around it takes ten seconds.
Pull the gasket out
Every gasket in the range lifts out with a fingernail. Wash both sides, dry, press it back until it seats flat.
Four things that will damage it
Everything below voids the finish rather than the warranty, but the result is the same bottle you like less.
Bleach and chlorine
Pits stainless steel. Bicarbonate or a dishwasher tablet does the same job without the pitting.
Steel wool
Takes the passive layer off the steel and the coating off the outside.
Freezing a full bottle
Water expands. An insulated body has nowhere to give and the weld can open.
Boiling water in a sealed cap
Pressure builds behind the gasket. Let anything above 90°C stand a minute before closing.
